GRAMMY Award-Winner to Take Bluegrass Spartanburg Stage

SPARTANBURG, SC (December 2, 2019). Bluegrass Spartanburg and the Becky Buller Band will end 2019 together with one last show for the year in the Chapman Cultural Center on December 13th. The show will be the last stop on Buller’s tour for the year and Bluegrass Spartanburg’s last show before 2020 begins. Doors open at 6:45PM with drinks and live music in the lobby, and the performance starts at 8PM.

Bluegrass Spartanburg is the only organization in the area offering a premium live music experience with bluegrass musicians of such a high caliber. Spartanburg Philharmonic Executive Director Kathryn Boucher adds, “we’re extremely proud of the lineup we have this season, offering performances from several Grammy award-winning groups, including bluegrass phenom Béla Fleck. It’s an honor to have such incredible artists perform right here in Spartanburg. This a must-see season!”

This season’s dynamite lineup is due in part to Spartanburg Philharmonic board member and former head of the Bluegrass Spartanburg Committee Peter Grzan who was involved in the selection of the Becky Buller Band. He attributes the board’s decision to the influence of 4-time International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) Banjo Player of the Year Kristin Scott Benson of The Grascals.

“When we became a part of the Spartanburg Philharmonic organization and became Bluegrass Spartanburg one of the brilliant decisions was to ask legendary banjoist and Boiling Springs resident Kristin Scott Benson to join the committee, and we were delighted that she agreed. Since that time, we have relied heavily on a list that she put together for us and one of her recommendations was Becky Buller” said Grzan.

Becky Buller is a highly decorated musician and songwriter in the bluegrass world. She is a 2-time Grammy award-winning songwriter and an 8-time IBMA winner. She pioneered the way for many women in bluegrass by becoming the first female to win Fiddle Player of the Year and the first artist to win in both instrumental and vocal categories.

For years, Buller played in various groups including female bluegrass super-group The First Ladies of Bluegrass. Additionally, she has written for countless distinguished bluegrass musicians including The Infamous Stringdusters, The Travelin’ McCourys, Ricky Skaggs, Josh Williams, and Bluegrass Spartanburg veterans Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out.

It wasn’t until 2016, that Buller decided to form the Becky Buller Band and become her own frontwoman. The rest of the band includes Ned Luberecki on banjo, Dan Boner on guitar, Nate Lee on mandolin and vocals, and Daniel Hardin on bass and vocals.

This show counts as a first for Buller and her band, and they are preparing with nothing short of enthusiasm, “I’m so excited that the Becky Buller Band is closing out 2019 at Bluegrass Spartanburg! This marks the first time I’ve performed in South Carolina with my own outfit, and I can’t wait!”

The fiddling songstress will be playing several originals, some bluegrass classics, and a handful of holiday favorites. This show has something for everyone!

Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased by phone (864 542-2787), in person at the Chapman Cultural Center box office Monday-Friday, or online at www.SPhil.org/Bluegrass.
