A call for a chorus: On Saturday, September 12, 2026 the Spartanburg Philharmonic will be performing Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein at the “American Heroes” concert. Join us in bringing the vibrant rhythms and powerful messages of Chichester Psalms to life through song alongside the Spartanburg Philharmonic under the direction of John Young Shik Concklin and Chorus Master Dr. Aaron Harp. The Chichester Psalms Chorus is open to adult singers in our community. Come sing, connect, and create together!

Chichester Psalms is a 19 minute choral orchestral composition written in 3 movements. The text is taken from the Book of Psalms, and is sung entirely in the original Hebrew.

Voicing: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass

Chichester Psalms Chorus is open to any strong singer in our community over the age of 18. Singers must be able to learn their parts on their own in advance of rehearsal. A solid background in choral singing is preferred.

Who can participate?

Is there a cost to participate?

There is no cost to participate in Chichester Psalms Chorus. Music will be provided for you, but must be returned at the end of the concert. If you would like to purchase your own score to use and keep, a link will be provided for you.

What if I can’t speak Hebrew?

The text can be intimidating! Pronunciation guides and rehearsal tracks will be shared with chorus members to help in the learning process.

What is the concert attire?

Musicians typically wear concert black - an all black outfit of your choosing. You will not need to purchase any specific concert attire. More information on what to wear will be shared closer to the event date.

What happens after I sign up?

Start learning! A Spartanburg Philharmonic team member will be in touch with you to finalize your voice part and get the music to you. We’re excited to see you at the first rehearsal!
