A Different Perspective

Experience the view from the stage and orchestra pit here at Twichell

Welcome to the Stage!

This is what the performers see when they step out onto the stage and look out into the audience:

How do the performers know where to go?

Practice! When you hear "stage right" or "stage left," it means the direction from the performer's view when facing the audience. "Upstage" means toward the back of the stage, and "downstage" means toward the audience. Performing on the stage is a way to showcase your skills and talents. The more you practice and gain experience, the more comfortable and confident you will be on the stage!

Welcome to the “Pit”!

Orchestra members create the live music you hear in this small space:

What is a pit orchestra?

A pit orchestra is a group of musicians who play music for shows and performances, like musicals and plays. The term "pit" refers to the sunken or lower area designated for the orchestra. In Twichell, it is at the front of the stage. A conductor leads the orchestra, helping the musicians to play together, and works closely with the stage director and performers to ensure that the music aligns with the action on stage. The orchestra's job is to make the music match what's happening on stage. They're like the live soundtrack for the show, making it more exciting and fun!

Twichell Auditorium was built in 1899 and has been renovated several times since then. The photo below is just after the most recent renovation in 2019.
