The Spartanburg Philharmonic Announce Courtney LeBauer as Associate Concertmaster

The Spartanburg Philharmonic is delighted to announce the appointment of Courtney LeBauer as Associate Concertmaster beginning in the 2024-2025 season. Dr. LeBauer brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this esteemed position, further enhancing the artistic excellence of our orchestra.

Courtney Elise LeBauer's journey with music began at the age of six when she first picked up the violin. Since then, her passion and dedication have propelled her to remarkable achievements in the world of music. Notably, Dr. LeBauer holds a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Rice University, a Master of Music with highest honors from the University of Michigan, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from The Cleveland Institute of Music.

Her distinguished career has seen her perform with renowned orchestras and chamber ensembles across Europe and America. Dr. LeBauer's versatility as a musician is evident in her role as concertmaster, soloist, chamber musician, and even as an assistant conductor. Her performances have received high acclaim, with critics lauding her for her exceptional talent and artistry.

In addition to her performance career, Dr. LeBauer is deeply committed to music education. She has taught violin and viola at prestigious institutions such as the Cleveland School of the Arts, Arizona State University, and the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule in Düsseldorf, Germany. Her dedication to nurturing young talent is evident in the successes of her students, many of whom have gone on to pursue advanced studies and receive prestigious awards.

The role of Associate Concertmaster is a pivotal one within any orchestra, requiring not only exceptional musical ability but also strong leadership and collaborative skills. Dr. LeBauer's extensive experience as a chamber musician makes her ideally suited for this position. Her familiarity with the Spartanburg Philharmonic, its community, and its patrons further strengthens her suitability for the role.

When deciding who would fill the role, Music Director of the Philharmonic, John Young Shik Concklin said this, “I've worked with Courtney directly as Concertmaster twice, Associate Concertmaster once, and other times on stage elsewhere. From the first moments of collaboration, I immediately knew that the Philharmonic would benefit greatly from her presence and leadership.”
