Music She Wrote is the title of this chamber music program featuring the works of women composers. Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of famed composer Felix Mendelssohn, was an accomplished composer during a time when society was not ready to embrace the fact that women could write music as equally significant as their male counterparts. Her String Quartet from 1834 is a testament to her enduring brilliance.
Florence Price was the first African American woman to have her music played by a major orchestra. Her Five Folk Songs in Counterpoint is an imaginative reframing from 1951 of old American spirituals for string quartet.
