Spartanburg Philharmonic’s Hub City Holiday Concert Returns

A Beloved Holiday Tradition Returns to Twichell Auditorium on Saturday, December 7th at 7 PM

9th Music Director, Stephan Sanders, conducts Hub City Holiday in 2016

SPARTANBURG, SC (December 2, 2024) — After nearly a decade, one of Spartanburg’s most treasured holiday traditions makes its long-awaited return as the Spartanburg Philharmonic proudly presents Hub City Holiday on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at 7 PM. The festive evening will be held at the historic Twichell Auditorium on the campus of Converse University, inviting the community to celebrate the joy and spirit of the holiday season.

Hub City Holiday, last performed in 2016 under the baton of Music Director Stephan Sanders, returns this year with a fresh energy and vision under the leadership of the Philharmonic’s current Music Director, John Young Shik Concklin. As the inaugural holiday concert under Concklin’s direction, this event signifies a heartfelt commitment to reviving and preserving this seasonal tradition for the Spartanburg community.

“This concert is more than just music; it’s a celebration of connection and joy,” said Concklin. “Hub City Holiday is a tradition that unites our community, brings families together, and captures the spirit of the season. I am honored to carry it forward and look forward to making this an annual highlight for years to come.”

A Celebration of Music and Storytelling

This year’s Hub City Holiday promises a magical evening filled with timeless music, stunning performances, and heartwarming moments. The program features a dynamic vocal ensemble, uniting the extraordinary talents of choirs from Dorman High School, Spartanburg Day School, and Wofford College. Together, these ensembles will perform beloved holiday classics, creating a rich and festive soundscape sure to inspire and uplift audiences of all ages.

Adding a special touch of nostalgia and charm, the evening will also include a live reading of the classic holiday poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas", famously beginning with the line, “’Twas the night before Christmas…”. This beloved tradition will bring the story to life in an unforgettable way, enchanting children and adults alike.

An Evening to Remember

With its return, Hub City Holiday aims to rekindle fond memories while creating new ones. For many, the concert is a chance to step away from the hustle and bustle of the season and immerse themselves in the warmth and joy that only live music can bring.
