Spartanburg Philharmonic Extends Contract of Music Director and Conductor John Young Shik Concklin

The Spartanburg Philharmonic is pleased to announce the extension of Music Director and Conductor John Young Shik Concklin’s contract, solidifying his leadership during the orchestra’s highly centennial celebration in 2028 and through the 2029-2030 season.

“The Board of the Spartanburg Philharmonic unanimously voted to offer John an extension to his contract, and he graciously accepted,” said Board President Dr. Cabe Loring. “John has established an excellent rapport with the musicians and has a vision for fostering community engagement… The Board eagerly anticipates witnessing the continued growth of our organization and programming under our renewed partnership.”

Concklin, the Philharmonic’s tenth Music Director, has served in this role since 2023. He first joined the organization as a violist before making a widely praised conducting debut in 2018. He returned as a Music Director finalist in 2022 and was ultimately selected after stepping in as a substitute conductor later that year. Known for his clear beat, rhythmic precision, and creative vision, Concklin also serves as Music Director of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra and as a conductor with the Atlanta Music Project.
