SPARTANBURG, SC— Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra continues its 2016-2017 “Espresso” chamber concert series on Friday, February 24, with Percussive Percolator. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. when doors open to the Chapman Cultural Center theater for a happy hour reception that will include beer, wine, and snacks, all leading up to the 6:30 p.m. concert that will feature the percussion section of the orchestra. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by telephone — (864) 583-2776 — or in person at Chapman’s box office Monday- Friday afternoons. From classic Brazilian dances – to funk-inspired tunes – to traditional Haitian drumming, this program will be sure to entertain audiences with its blend of driving beats and colorful melodies. “This concert is going to be exciting and different from most of our concerts,” says Adena McDaniel who shares the duties of Principal Percussionist in the orchestra with her husband Matt McDaniel. “The variety of instruments alone is a reason to come!” she adds. The ensemble will employ drums sets, marimbas, shakers, beaters, and a slew of wild instruments for this exciting and engaging event.

In addition to energizing rhythms, “percussion ensemble concerts have an incredible visual aspect to them,” says Matt. “With the pieces we’ve selected, I know that the audience will not only enjoy listening to the music but also love watching the performance. This is a concert not to be missed.”

Ticketholders will be treated to concert-inspired wines and bites provided by the Marriott of Spartanburg as well as beer specially curated by sponsor Hub City Tap House. As an added bonus, audience members will receive a limited edition shaker pint glass or stemless wine glass to take home. After the show, the audience is invited to both neighboring establishments, the Marriott and the Hub City Tap House, for special meal and drink deals.
