Throw Down Your Heart - A Béla Fleck Banjo Documentary

  • Hughes Main Library 25 Heritage Green Place Greenville, SC, 29601 United States (map)

Join us as we take an incredible journey with sixteen-time GRAMMY winner Béla Fleck to discover the origins of the banjo. Through his feature-length documentary, "Throw Down Your Heart," Fleck captures his travels through Africa as he uncovers the rich cultural history of the instrument that is at the forefront of Americana music. "Throw Down Your Heart” dispels the myth that banjos just for “rednecks” and hillbillies, and instead is a vibrant part of Caribbean and African music. In addition to the screening, the evening will be moderated by local banjo scholars and will include a lively discussion of the film.
