Spotlight: Karen Parrott

Next to the word “genuine” in the dictionary is a picture of Spartanburg Philharmonic board member Karen Parrott. No matter the circumstance, Karen will always greet you with a smile, asking about your day, congratulating you on your accomplishments, and thanking you for your time, all while soaking in every single detail. Her consistent authenticity and ability to make everyone feel special are what make her unique.

A long-time Spartanburg resident, Karen has graciously volunteered in the community for over 20 years and has made the city home for her husband, Stephen, and their three children. She previously worked at Parrott Medical Inc. in a part-time administrative position and has extensive experience in pharmaceutical sales from her time working with Syntex Corporation, where she was awarded The President’s Award for top sales.

Karen truly is an advocate for a premium user experience. Her past sales experience shines through in her knowledge of consumerism. Not only does she understand patrons, but she empathizes with them as well. Before becoming a board member in (year), for years, Karen was and remains an avid supporter of the Spartanburg Philharmonic and various other programs in the Chapman Cultural Center. She enthusiastically encourages members of the community to attend concerts, donate, and become involved with the Spartanburg Philharmonic. Additionally, she has taken art classes at Chapman, volunteered and worked closely with Ballet Spartanburg and Spartanburg Little Theatre, and previously served as Chapman’s Director of Annual Giving.

Earlier this year, the Spartanburg Philharmonic formed a Development Committee, and Karen was appointed the Fund Development Chair of the Board. On any given day, you can find her in the Philharmonic offices personally writing letters, making phone calls, and stuffing envelopes for patrons, donors, and members of the board. She is at every event networking, mingling with patrons, and making sure everyone’s needs are met. She works tirelessly to ensure that her personal touch is evident in all of her efforts.

Karen Parrott is the epitome of an involved board member and is undoubtedly a crucial addition to the Spartanburg Philharmonic family. Her dedication and time is met with enormous appreciation.
