Divertimentos & Dressage: Unique Duo Strives to Make a Difference

The ancient horseback riding form of dressage must be executed with precision as well as artistry. Much like a dancer, horse and rider carefully rehearse the choreography until they achieve harmony and become an extension of one another, resulting in a breathtaking spectacle. So why not provide music for these dancers?

On Thursday, October 24, Motlow Creek Equestrian Center in Campobello, SC, presents Divertimentos & Dressage: an evening of dressage freestyle to great moments in classical music. All proceeds from this this one-of-a-kind concert event will go to benefit the charity Brooke USA and the Spartanburg Philharmonic. Concerts goers will enjoy a live 18-pieces orchestra ensemble featuring strings, flutes, brass and harp which will play a selection of well-loved classical pieces as dressage horses perform beautifully choreographed routines.

Hostess, Sally Frick, is a flautist, who frequently performs with the Philharmonic and is also a competitive equestrian. In creating this event, Sally hopes to bring people together who genuinely want to make a difference by supporting a local organization, as well as an organization with global influence.

“This is a dream come true as I get to help raise funds for my two passions – horses and classical music.”

The equestrian center will transform the starry night into an evening of music and dancing, with a twist. Under the cover of the beautifully lit arena, the Spartanburg Philharmonic ensemble will accompany two solo performances by riders JJ Tate and Carolyn West. Tate, a Brooke USA Ambassador, will perform with one of her grand prix horses to a compilation of pieces that includes The Arrival of The Queen of Sheba, by George Frederick Handel. Carolyn West, on her horse Iris, will ride to Entracte, by Jacques Ibert and Reverie by Claude Debussy.

An Evening of Divertimentos & Dressage is an exciting event that brings together people who genuinely want to make a difference by raising funds for Brooke USA and the Spartanburg Philharmonic. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour that includes wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres. Promptly at 7 p.m., guests will take their seats to enjoy the evening’s performances. Individual tickets are $65 per person.
