Auditions
Auditions will be held on Monday, June 15 (Section Violin and Section Bass) and Tuesday, June 16 (Oboe 2 and Horn 3). All auditions will be held in the Daniel Recital Hall at Converse University in the afternoons/evenings on the dates listed above. Exact times will be assigned after the Registration Deadline (Friday, June 11).

Pay the $15, non-refundable Audition Fee
The Spartanburg Philharmonic holds annual in-person auditions to fill vacant, tenure-track positions in the ensemble. These in-person auditions are held in late spring after the conclusion of the current season. This page will be updated in March or April each year with a vacancy list and application process.
Substitute Auditions
To be considered for the Spartanburg Philharmonic Substitute Musician list, please follow the steps below to apply. Your Audition video will not be viewed until all materials have been received and the audition fee has been paid.
Complete the online Online Registration and Substitute Audition Form which will ask for a current resume and either a recording of your audition (URL link or video upload). See below for more information regarding the video audition requirements.
Pay the $15, non-refundable Audition Fee
Judging:
all auditions are reviewed by the Music Director and Principal of the section;
the first round is reviewed “blind” (i.e. audio only) to maintain a fair and balanced audition process;
judges may take up to 2 weeks to review and share the results of your audition
Video Audition Requirements
Audition videos must:
include all excerpts from the Required Excerpts list; “Substitute” list only; if no “Substitute” list exists, use the “Section” list; do not submit excerpts for a titled role (i.e. Principal, Assistant Principal, etc.); but not include a solo or concerto excerpt;
be done in one single take; do not record the excerpts separately;
be of the highest quality audio possible with minimal background noise;
be well-lit; please make sure that the judges can see your face and hands clearly
include the entirety of your instrument; exceptions are: double bass (we only need to see from the bridge to the scroll), percussion, and harp (please include the pedals, but the head is not necessary)
be approximately 10 minutes or less (depending on the music excerpts)
Videos may be uploaded to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Box, or other similar services, or you may upload your video straight into the Audition Registration Form.

Pay Scale
The Spartanburg Philharmonic is a per-service, professional orchestra. The pay scale is between $85-$100/service offering approximately 35-40 services per season, depending on position and instrumentation required for each performance. Additional events are handled on a case-by-case basis, and Principal chairs get first right of refusal.
The orchestra offers a travel stipend of $15-$30 per day of travel based on distance from Spartanburg.
