Concert Attire:

ALL:

All Musicians and Staff are required to wear face masks (fully and securely covering both nose and mouth) while in the building. i.e. for the full duration of the rehearsal, while backstage, during the break, and when entering/exiting Twichell. 

For the concert, face masks should be black or white. The Philharmonic can provide a black face mask to any musician who needs/wants one (see below).

Men:

White Tie & Tails, solid white shirt, black socks, black dress shoes.

Women:

Solid black skirt/dress/dress pants (ankle-length to floor-length when seated), solid, black dressy blouse/top with full or 3/4 sleeve, plain black hose, black dress shoes.

Restrictions:

  • No sandals, sneakers, or other informal footwear, no open-toe shoes or sandals.

  • No flashy jewelry (metal jewelry is particularly distracting due to stage lighting).

  • No alarm/beeper watches, cell phones, or pagers; all cell phone ringers and alarms on watches and will be turned off during rehearsals and concerts.

  • PLEASE refrain from the use of perfumes, colognes, aftershaves, hairsprays, or other heavily scented products in order that neighboring Musicians may play in comfort and without allergic reactions.


Health & Safety

The following steps are being taken to ensure the health and safety of all members of the orchestra, staff, and audience.  By signing your contract and attending rehearsals, etc. you agree to adhere to and respect these rules.  As the concert date approaches, we may update our policy in accordance with CDC/DHEC guidelines and SC State restrictions & recommendations. Should these updates apply to you, we will notify everyone via email as soon as possible. Thank  you for  understanding!

  • All Musicians and Staff are required to wear face masks (fully and securely covering both nose and mouth) while in the building. i.e. for the full duration of the rehearsal, while backstage, during break, and when entering/exiting Twichell. Exceptions will be made for woodwind and brass players, who will not be required to wear masks while playing, but will be asked to wear masks during multi-rests.
     
  • In addition to face masks, while not performing we request that all Musicians and Staff observe safe social distancing practices as recommended by the CDC, staying at least 6 feet apart.
     
  • The stage will be set such that musicians will be approximately 6 feet apart (see below for stage plot).
     
  • NO friends, family members, students, or anyone other than Philharmonic Musicians, Admin, Production Staff, and Twichell Staff will be allowed in the hall or backstage during rehearsals/recording sessions.
     
  • For the health a safety of our musicians and our audience, we will be making a video/audio recording of the concert and distributing it digitally to all ticket-holders. No audience members will be allowed in the hall while we are rehearsing/recording.
     
  • To reduce the amount of exposure we have together, the concert cycle has been condensed to one day.
     

Self-Screening & Reporting

  • Prior to attending the first rehearsal, all musicians and staff should answer the Self-Screening Questionnaire on the CDC website (see link above).
     
  • If a contracted musician begins to show symptoms prior to the first rehearsal, they will be excused from the concert cycle with no penalty.
     
  • If a member of the orchestra tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of the concert cycle, they should immediately notify the General Manager (Peter B. Kay: pkay@spartanarts.org) so that the information may be relayed to the other contracted musicians as quickly as possible. Names and instruments will remain confidential.

Seating & Distancing:

In accordance with recommendations made by the CDC and with the preliminary results of the International Study lead by the NFHS (click for details), musicians will be seated no closer than 6 feet apart. Below are digital mock-ups for the stage setting; we have done our best to accurately represent the layout, but some discrepancies may occur (e.g. stand placement is an individual preference).

In addition to the socially distanced layout on stage, we will be designating multiple areas for musicians to unpack, warm-up, etc. throughout the space. Similarly, we will open all doors to the building to allow multiple access points. As there will be no audience, we will have full use of the hall and the front lobby as well as the dressing rooms downstairs. As we get closer to the first rehearsal, please look for an email from the General Manager regarding details.

 

Parking & Directions to the Stage:

Parking is available in one of the parking lots on Fairview Ave nearest the auditorium. You may park either next to the school or in the large lot across Fairview. Violins, please enter through the lobby. All others, please enter through the Lawson Academy or via the Loading Dock backstage.

General Info:

Paychecks
The Spartanburg Philharmonic will issue compensation to each Musician WITHIN TEN BUSINESS DAYS after the final service of a sequence of rehearsals and performances. Please note: checks will not be issued until updated W-4 tax forms are received by the Personnel Manager.

Tickets

Because we are not performing for a live audience, we will not be offering Comp Tickets. However, every contracted musician will be given a link and access code to the concert once it is available online.


 

Masks:

For the concert, face masks should be black or white.

Although we encourage everyone to find a mask that fits and is most comfortable on their own face, the Philharmonic can provide a black face mask to any musician who needs/wants one.

These masks are 3-ply cotton and measure approximately 5 inches from the nose to the chin and 7 inches from ear to ear.
