To conclude our Classics Season, we are proudly presenting a concert full of exhilarating pieces that are sure to make an unforgettable “glorious finale!”
The program begins with Mozart’s illustrious The Magic Flute Overture. Mozart tragically died two months after the opera premiered, but he did live long enough to see how well-received his final opera was. Additionally, Mozart often left the composition of his overtures for last, so in a way, this piece is a glorious finale within itself.
Next we have Poulenc’s Concerto for Organ featuring Spartanburg’s very own champion of the organ, Brennan Szafron. Incredibly, Poulenc had never composed for the organ before, so he did extensive research on Baroque pieces for the instrument by the likes of Bach and Buxtehude.
Finally, our orchestra will engage in a truly magnificent performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 that will leave you on the edge of your seat. We started the season with a celebration, and we’re closing with another! Find inspiration in the soaring melodies and allow yourself to be swept away in the grandeur of this finale.
