Youth Concert - Link Up

In collaboration with Weill Music Institute (WMI) the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra participated in Carnegie Hall Link-Up program since the 2013 Season. Link-Up pairs orchestras across the country, with schools in their local communities, inviting them to learn about orchestra repertoire through a year-long hands-on music curriculum. Utilizing curriculum materials provided free-of-charge by WMI, teachers guide students in exploring music through a composer’s lens, with students participating in active music making in the classroom, performing repertoire on recorder, violin, voice or body percussion and taking part in creative work such as composing their own pieces inspired by the orchestral music they have studied.

The culmination of the year-long program is a live performance in which students have the opportunity to sing and play the recorder or violin along with the Spartanburg Philharmonic. The performance often serves as a student's first concert experience and provides them with the opportunity to apply the musical concepts they have studied.

These concerts provide students with live musical experiences that will expand their music education and nurture them to be music loving adults.

The 2015 Youth Concert was sponsored by the Duke Energy Foundation. These funds provided the support required for the Spartanburg Philharmonic to provide three free Youth Concerts for over 3500 students.
