The Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra opens its 68th season with Copland’s extraordinary Fanfare forthe Common Man followed a spectacular new piano concerto by award winning composer, Kenneth Fuchs, performed by the brilliantly expressive Jeffrey Biegel. To complete the concert, the SPO will perform the first Symphony by Johannes Brahms, one of greatest masterworks in Classical music.

Under the baton of Maestro Gary Robinson, the orchestra will partner with community and student ensembles to present a festive program filled with holiday favorites & classic carols. ‘Tis the season for this One Spartanburg event!

FEB. 4, 2017 Immortal Beloved

In the summer of 1812, Beethoven penned two of his most famous and most lasting works: a “little” Symphony in F Major and an exquisite love letter to a woman of mystery. The identity of the woman who received such adoration from the great composer has never been learned, but listen to the joyous music of the 8th Symphony, and you will hear the elation and love that Beethoven felt for his “Immortal Beloved.”

APR. 29, 2017 Grand Finale

Maestro Sarah Ioannides’s final performance at Twichell Auditorium will bring her 12 year tenure full circle. The hauntingly beautiful Nocturne, with the Converse Chorale, was a feature in the Director’s debut performance with our orchestra. The concert will conclude with the ever-popular Saint-Saëns “Organ Symphony,” the very first piece the Maestro conducted in Spartanburg.
