Sarah Ioannides
Music Director

It is my great pleasure to invite you to discover and experience the Spartanburg Philharmonic in its 2007-08 season. It is my hope that this season’s concert will unite our community through the power of music.

Earth, Man & Imagination...
This season celebrates our wonderful planet and how man has used the imagination to express the beauty of this earth and his or her mind. The Spartanburg Philharmonic brings you a series of concerts with the vital compositions of this genre. We explore Beethoven with his towering “Emporer” Piano Concerto, his wonderful Violin Concerto and the “Pastorale” Symphony. We celebrate Shostakovich in his powerful fifth Symphony, among other great highlights. In April 2008 we will perform the magical Brahms “A German Requiem”, which will bring our city together through the participation of its finest choral singers and soloists. We highlight great women composers in our Mother Earth concert at the newly opened Chapman Center.

We also feature outstanding soloists of international caliber and I hope you will not miss the chance to “wow” at their gifts to offer. I am especially excited about each and every one of them performing to you! We also have a special family pops concert with a team of 7 outstanding soloists all one evening! Proteus 7, who will join the orchestra for our new Monstorworks concert.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the generosity of our sponsors, board members, friends of the philharmonic, and staff for providing such a wonderful season ahead for all the community and visitors to the greater Spartanburg area to enjoy!

We have a unique opportunity to share this time together. I invite you to make a note of each concert in your personal calendars, to become season subscribers, and to join me for the 2007-8 Season as we make history in the city of Spartanburg as it remains… ………Alive with Music!
